Region I Emergency Services

CAP provides services to assist individuals or families in emergency situations. Agency staff work closely with community agencies throughout western North Dakota. CAP programs have various income guidelines, restrictions and limited funding.

Emergency Services include:

Rental assistance

Limited assistance is available for monthly rent on an emergency basis. CAP does not provide permanent and on-going assistance for rent. We may help with one month's back rent to help prevent eviction. Availability of this service depends on availability of federal dollars.

Rental security deposit

Security Deposits are available to income qualified individuals who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless. Potential renters must not have signed a lease or moved in prior to completing application process with CAP. Security Deposits are limited to one per household per life time. The rent for the property must not exceed 30 percent of the household income. The property must also pass inspection by the agency.

Energy Share (utilities)

This program addresses issues with a household's gas/electric bills. Qualified individuals must be qualified for Fuel Assistance under their county Social Service Office. CAP may pay a percentage of the past 90 day electric bill. Fuel Assistance pays for the gas/heating portion of your energy bill.

Budget counseling

Within this program individuals and families have an opportunity to work with a counselor to identify how they are spending their money and assist them in planning and implementing options to bring them to a balanced monthly budget.

Adult Homeless Shelter

Adults (singles and couples) who find themselves without living accommodations may find respite in the CAP Adult Homeless Shelter. No children are allowed within the CAP shelter (a family shelter is operated by the Domestic Violence Program in Dickinson). Depending on circumstances homeless individuals are allowed one to five weeks in the shelter. Space is limited. Residents in the shelter are provided case management in an effort to move them into employment and a permanent housing situation.

Senior Commodity Supplemental Food Program

Through this program food is provided to low income senior citizens living in Regions I and VIII. To be eligible for the program you must be age 60 or older. Income guidelines are $1,009 per month for a single person household or $1,354 per month for a two person household. Participants receive a large box and a bag of food every other month and items include such things as pasta, breakfast cereal, cheese, canned meats/vegetables/fruits, canned and dried milk, etc. In the communities of Dickinson and Williston participants (those who are able) are asked to pick up their food packages. If participants are unable to pick up they are delivered to their home. A network of volunteers deliver the commodities to drop off points or participant's homes in the rural communities.
