Region I Prevention Programs:

Region I Prevention Programs main role is to establish or identify community based organizations whose main function is to reduce the use of ATOD abuse among persons under the age of 21 and increase responsible use of legal drugs by those over 21. Another focus is to unite young people and adults concerned about this public health issue and to establish community coalitions to address the issues related to alcohol, tobacco, & other drug use in the Region I communities.

 Prevention Conference

 This is an annual conference with a Key-note speaker who discusses a given topic in prevention each year.

 County Connection Newsletter

March Connection Letter

The County Connection is put out by Region I Prevention five times a year. This newsletter is to inform people of prevention activities which are happening around the region.  If you would like to receive the newsletter or have information that is noteworthy contact our office.

 Back To School Programs

 Williston State College Orientation for incoming freshmen provides them with drug and alcohol information by the coalition and law enforcement.  Traffic Crossing Guard training is provided to area schools.  Parent education regarding school safety, bus safety and seat belt safety is also available. 

Red Ribbon Campaign

The Red Ribbon Campaign is a national drug awareness program that promotes a drug-free life. Region I Prevention Program assists the area schools in providing red ribbons and drug free information to both youth and adults in our region.

 Job Training Workshop

Community members go into the classroom and talk to area sophomore students to educate them about the job application process, interviewing, attitude & appearance and communication to help them with their employment opportunities.

 Baby Think It Over

A teen pregnancy and parenting education program using realistic infant simulators. The simulators allow adolescents and young adults to experience the demands of parenting in preparation for making informed choices about their futures. Options on the simulators allow instructors to adjust sleep times for normal, sick, or easy babies. Indicators on the computer tell instructors if the student neglected or abused the infant simulators.  These simulators are available for use by all Region I Schools.

Youth Alternative Activities

Region I Prevention Program supports and helps sponsor activities including the area SADD Chapters, After-Prom and After-Graduation Parties and other programs that offer alternative activities to ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs. 

Be Amazed – Teen Maze

Area sophomores participate in a teen maze reenacting real life scenarios that put them in a situation where they receive information from different agencies.  The idea is to show them that there are agencies in the area that can provide assistance. 

National College Alcohol Week

Information is provided to students and the general public about underage drinking, binge drinking and overuse of alcohol.  The coalition coordinates a radio remote and an open forum for agencies providing services to the college age student.
